The Nine Mile Run Watershed is a small urban watershed located in Pittsburgh's East End. While measuring just 6.5 square miles in area, the watershed is home to numerous exciting projects and initiatives. Among them is the largest aquatic ecosystem restoration in the U.S. being managed by the Army Corps of Engineers.
Nine Mile Run Watershed Association (NMRWA) programs complement this amazing physical transformation with a variety of innovative projects that involve community residents directly in urban ecology initiatives that improve the health of the watershed.
At NMRWA, we see urban neighborhoods and residents as
important parts of the natural world--not separate from it. This philosophy
is helping us transform our urban watershed one resident, one home, and
one neighborhood at a time. Every effort counts, so read on and see what
you can do to make a difference!
